Viking River Cruises introduced its new Paris & D-Day 80th Anniversary journey for the 2024 European river season.
With departures running from March through to November 2024, this special 12-day cruisetour (from London England to Paris France) will commemorate "Operation Overlord" (the Battle of Normandy), which took place ~80 years ago and served as the catalyst for the liberation of Western Europe from German occupation.
Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking said many of their guests, particularly those with family members who served in the armed forces, had a keen interest in World War II (1939-45).

Vacationers booked on Viking's "Paris & D-Day 80th Anniversary" cruisetour begin their journey in London to visit historic WW2 sites, such as Bletchley Park, the home of the WWII codebreakers, and the Churchill War Rooms, where the D-Day landings were prepared in England. Passengers may learn about Britain's Special Forces and its allies during a special visit to the Imperial War Museum London as well as experience Gunwharf Quays, Southwick House, and the D-Day Museum.
After 4 days in England, passengers continue on to Paris to embark on one of the line's award-winning Viking Longships. Sailing roundtrip from Paris (France), guests can explore Giverny and visit the gardens and farmhouse where Claude Monet worked, trace the footsteps of Joan of Arc in Rouen, as well as walk the ground at Normandy's American Military Cemetery/World War beaches.
