Ege Port Kusadası (Turkey), operated by Global Ports Holding/GPH (the world’s largest cruise port operator) has completed the first phase of its solar energy investment project.

As part of its ongoing sustainability strategy, the port has installed a rooftop solar power plant capable of producing approximately 312,552 kWh of electricity annually. This development represents a significant step towards Ege Port Kuşadası’s objective of transitioning entirely to renewable energy sources.

The installation, commissioned at a cost of US$300,000, includes 426 solar panels and five inverters. The facility is projected to prevent 223 tons of carbon emissions per year. A second phase, involving the construction of a ground-mounted solar power plant within the port’s premises, is scheduled for completion by late 2025. Upon the project's full realization, Ege Port Kuşadası will meet 100% of its energy requirements through renewable sources, achieving carbon neutrality in its energy consumption.

Aziz Gungor (GPH East Med Regional Director and General Manager of Ege Port Kusadası) emphasized the importance of the project in aligning with broader environmental objectives within the cruise industry. The initiative reflects Global Ports Holding’s commitment to implementing sustainable practices across its network of ports worldwide.

Located strategically on Türkiye’s Aegean coast, Ege Port Kuşadası serves as the primary gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the Eastern Mediterranean’s most prominent historical attractions. Since being operated by Global Ports Holding in 2003, the port has consistently ranked among the leading cruise destinations in the region, offering modern terminal infrastructure, shopping facilities, and seamless access to cultural and historical sites.
