Disney Adventure prepares for maiden passage into the Baltic

The Disney Adventure—hailed as the largest passenger vessel ever completed in Wismar (Germany)—has commenced her departure from the Meyer Wismar shipyard, setting a course for the expanse of the Baltic Sea. According to a directive issued by the local port authority and published online, the harbour basin will be closed to all traffic from 10:00p.m. Sunday until 09:00 a.m. Monday to permit the careful manoeuvring of the 342-metre, 208,000–gross-ton liner, assisted by multiple tugboats.

This departure signals the close of a prolonged and turbulent chapter in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s shipbuilding narrative. The vessel’s construction began in March 2018 under the name Global Dream, envisioned as a flagship for what was then a flourishing shipbuilding era. However, the abrupt collapse of global cruising during the COVID-19 crisis led to the insolvency of MV Werften and its owner, Genting Hong Kong, by 2022.

The unfinished hull was acquired by DCL-Disney Cruise Line in late 2022 and completed under the supervision of Meyer Werft, with significant redesigns to align with the company’s standards and brand style. The ship’s future role in Disney’s fleet was uncertain for a time, but the vessel now bears the name Disney Adventure and is set to enter service on December 15th, 2025, based in Singapore and serving the Southeast Asian cruising market.
