The Port of Gdynia Authority (Poland) has completed its tender process for operators at the Public Ferry Terminal, first launched in June of this year. Stena Line has been awarded the contract and, upon signing of the new agreement, will continue to operate at the terminal for the years ahead.
The new arrangement, which runs from 2026 to 2032, ensures the continuation of the Gdynia–Karlskrona ferry service, a link that carries the designation of Motorway of the Sea within the European Union’s transport network. Company officials noted that the outcome confirms the shared commitment of both Stena Line and the Port of Gdynia to sustained development, investment stability, and environmentally responsible shipping in the Baltic.
Stena Line has indicated that the forthcoming contract period will bring several operational advances, including round-the-clock freight handling, automated drop-and-collect systems, and the hybrid electrification of vessels. These measures are intended to reinforce the importance of the Gdynia–Karlskrona link as a strategic maritime corridor between Scandinavia and Central Europe, while aligning with EU climate objectives and improving competitiveness across the Baltic.
The company’s leadership stated that an uninterrupted presence at the Public Ferry Terminal will allow further development of Gdynia as a modern and integrated logistics hub. The cooperation between Stena Line and the Port of Gdynia was described as an affirmation of long-term priorities: innovation, sustainability, and the provision of dependable passenger and freight services.
Stena Line has operated the Gdynia–Karlskrona route for three decades. Over this time, more than 12 million passengers and 2.5 million freight units have been carried. The service is currently maintained by three vessels, two of which are modern 240-metre E-Flexer ferries. The company relocated its operations to the Public Ferry Terminal in Gdynia in June 2022.
