Ferry-cargo collision on the Bosporus injures dozen

A ferry operating the Beşiktaş-Üsküdar route in Istanbul’s Bosporus collided with the Panama-flagged cargo vessel Artvin (IMO 8917869) on Friday evening, September 19th, authorities report.

The ferry, identified as Kamil Sayın (IMO 8359859), struck the cargo ship while crossing near Salacak, off the Üsküdar district, around 8:30 p.m. local time. 

Twelve people were reported injured in statements from local officials. Among them, two passengers aboard the ferry were taken to the hospital by ambulance. It was affirmed that no one fell overboard. 

The ferry was brought safely to shore at Paşalimanı Pier, while the cargo ship was escorted by coast guard teams to a secure anchorage for inspection and assessment of damage. 

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
