TUI River Cruises has marked a new milestone in its Egyptian operations with the launch of its second Nile cruiser, TUI Bahareya.
The event was commemorated with an Arabic blessing ceremony in Luxor, where a traditional “Prayer to Hapi” — invoking the ancient deity of the Nile — was performed to wish the ship safe and prosperous voyages. The ceremony blended maritime tradition with Egyptian heritage, reflecting the deep cultural and historical significance of the river.
TUI Bahareya will operate 7-night all-inclusive round trips from Luxor, offering travelers an opportunity to explore Egypt’s ancient landmarks while enjoying the amenities of a modern river cruise. The event drew attention from local tourism professionals, signaling the city’s growing prominence as a center for cruise tourism along the Nile.
The ship’s pool deck was transformed into a ceremonial venue, decorated with rose petals and LED candles, while guests received commemorative alabaster plaques engraved to mark the occasion — a tribute to Luxor’s artisanal craftsmanship.
The celebration also featured live cultural performances, including Whirling Dervishes, saxophone music, and entertainment by the TUI's team, creating an atmosphere that connected traditional Egyptian artistry with the contemporary cruise experience.
Designed for 142 passengers across 72 cabins, TUI Bahareya combines Arabic-inspired décor with modern elegance. French Balcony and Superior French Balcony Cabins enhance onboard comfort, while the ship’s thematic interiors reflect Egypt’s artistic heritage. A defining feature of the voyage is the inclusion of licensed Egyptologists who accompany guests on excursions, offering expert insight into sites such as the Valley of the Kings and the temples of Karnak.
The all-inclusive format provides guests with fine dining, beverages, and curated excursions within a seamless travel experience. With Luxor serving as the embarkation point, the itineraries highlight the region’s most celebrated archaeological and cultural landmarks.
The launch of TUI Bahareya underscores the rising popularity of Nile River cruising, which has become a preferred mode of travel for visitors seeking an immersive exploration of Egypt’s history. Luxor’s strategic location and historical significance make it a natural hub for such operations. The Egyptian government, recognizing the potential of river-based tourism, continues to promote cruise development as part of a broader initiative to strengthen international arrivals. In partnership with industry leaders like TUI, these efforts aim to ensure sustainable growth and enrich the nation’s maritime and cultural tourism landscape.
