MSC Foundation and MSC Cruises have launched Oceans Day powered by MSC Foundation, a new onboard initiative designed to introduce children and families to ocean conservation through a range of educational and interactive activities.
The programme draws on the MSC Foundation’s environmental work at the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and incorporates educational content developed in collaboration with partners including Mission Blue and Marevivo.
Daniela Picco, Executive Director of MSC Foundation, said the initiative reflected the foundation’s view that education plays a central role in long-term ocean conservation. She noted that fostering an understanding of the marine environment encourages its protection and expressed the hope that the programme would help children and families develop a stronger connection with the ocean, inspiring curiosity, responsibility and lasting environmental awareness.
Developed in partnership with MSC Cruises’ Entertainment team, the programme is being introduced across the fleet for children and teenagers aged between three and seventeen.
Activities include games, quizzes, workshops, drawing sessions, conservation-themed challenges, the My Wish for the Ocean initiative, and an Ocean Ambassador Passport containing practical guidance and actions related to marine conservation. The programme concludes with a parade involving participating children.
Matteo Mancini, Family Entertainment Development Director at MSC Cruises, said the cruise line was pleased to support the foundation’s educational mission at sea through experiences designed to help younger guests gain a better understanding of the ocean and the importance of protecting it.
The initiative is expected to expand over time with the introduction of additional activities. On vessels equipped with an MSC Foundation Centre, foundation representatives will also take part in selected educational sessions and programme events.
