89-year-old Canadian Medevaced from Oceania Insignia

An 89-year-old woman has been evacuated from an Oceania Cruises ship off the Atlantic coast after experiencing signs of a heart attack.

The Coast Guard announced Sunday that it had responded to a call Saturday afternoon, July 8, from the cruise ship Oceania Insignia, which was 80 mi southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina.

A Coast Guard Station helicopter in Elizabeth City, North Carolina responded and arrived at the vessel about 2 hours later.

The woman, who is a Canadian, was hoisted and taken for treatment to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A nurse from the cruise liner accompanied her.
