Passenger Medevaced From Explorer of the Seas

A 68-year-old cruise passenger has been medevaced from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in Southeast Alaska on Tuesday, July 11, after falling down a flight of stairs.

The U.S. Coast Guard announced the accident happened onboard Explorer of the Seas while she was close to Kake. The man injured his ribs and also suffered other injuries.

The captain of the ship contacted watchstanders at Juneau's Coast Guard command center and a flight surgeon recommended the medevac.

Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the injured man and flew him to Sitka. Emergency medical personnel were waiting there.
