Port of Stockholm 2017 cruise season set a new record, with passenger numbers reaching a total of 600 000 cruisers, an increase of 22% on 2016.

Over the course of international cruise season, running from May through October, 263 cruise vessels called at Port of Stockholm, of which 73 cruise ship calls (a record number), were turnarounds, with guests beginning or ending their voyages in Stockholm.

Due to the fact that passengers often spend an extra day and night on land, they spend over SEK 0.5 billion (US$62 million) on hotels, sightseeing, restaurants and shopping in the port city.

In 2017 a new cruise quay-berth was completed at Värtahamen port and now enables more cruise vessels to visit. The installation of the 260-meter (850-foot) Seawalk in 2016 at Port of Nynäshamn resulted in improved service and increased flexibility. During 2017 cruise season a total of 22 cruise ships visited the port and almost all of them used the Seawalk.

Ferry services operate year-round in Baltic Sea, with routes to Finland, Poland and Russia. Each year approx 11 million cruise passengers travel using the ferry routes.
