Major Cruise Lines Return to Falmouth

According to Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean had halted plans by a couple of popular cruise lines to pull out of Falmouth Jamaica in Trelawny.

Bartlett said that Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean had decided to put on hold their plans to temporarily pull out of the port due to extensive damage in other popular destinations in the Caribbean.

This, the Minister added, had presented a chance for tourism stakeholders to fix problems identified as the reasons for the pull-out.

Earlier this year, the two lines announced that they would be revising itineraries to temporarily exclude port of Falmouth as a cruise destination for several of their large ships.

Later it was revealed that tourist harassment was the key factor behind lines' pull-out.

The Falmouth cruise ship pier is expected to get 49 additional ship calls over the next 6 months.
