Marella Spirit Sold for Scrap

Former Marella Spirit (Thomson Spirit) cruise ship that had until recently been operated by British company Marella Cruises under charter, has been sold for demolition in India.

The sale was concluded on October 29, and the ship has been renamed Mare S for a cruise from Athens (Piraeus) to Alang. The vessel had been owned by Cypriot company Louis Group since 2003.

The 33,930 GT cruise vessel had been built as ms Nieuw Amsterdam for Holland America at Chantiers de l’ Atlantique (France) in 1983.

In 2001-2002 the liner operated as "MS Patriot" for American Classic Voyages. Following the collapse of the company, it was chartered by Thomson Cruises as "Thomson Spirit". The company changed its name to "Marella Cruises" in 2017.
