Genting Hong Kong has purchased 50% of the land and 70% of newbuild business of Lloyd Werft shipyard, based in Bremerhaven, Germany. According to the deal, Genting will have to invest EUR 17.5 million in the yard.

The investment will allow the expansion of the facility by creating a new shipbuilding quay. In addition, the shipyard will hire a considerable amount of new workers.

On July 19, Genting announced an agreement with the yard for the construction of a trio of 100,000 GT-plus new expedition ships for Crystal Cruises. Each of the newbuilds will carry around 1,000 passengers. The first delivery is expected in late 2018. A pair of river newbuilds were also announced, to start sailing in spring 2017, but details on these have not been elaborated yet.
