Britain’s newest cruise ship arrived in Southampton on Monday, July 22, for her first visit to the UK port.
Saga Cruises launched Spirit of Discovery, the first of a couple of new ships that will become a familiar sight on Southampton water.
Spirit of Discovery is currently sailing on her maiden voyage around the United Kingdom and was scheduled to arrive at 7:40 a.m. and leave at around 8:30 p.m. A fireworks display is due to take place as the vessel passes Calshot at 9:15 p.m.
Spirit of Discovery is described as a luxury “boutique” ship, which can accommodate a total of 999 passengers. She will call at the port of Southampton another 4 times before the end of 2019.
Ship’s transit call to Southampton marks nearly 300 visits from the cruise company since Saga started passenger cruising operations in 1997. Each port call is estimated to be worth ~GBP 2 million to the local economy.
