Royal Caribbean Increases Cruise Shipping to Malaysia in 2020

Global cruise brand Royal Caribbean is set to boost the number of passenger arrivals during Visit Malaysia Year 2020.

The company's Quantum of the Seas ship is scheduled to be making record-breaking visits to Malaysia during the 2020-2021 cruise season.

Including the current 2019-2020 cruise season, around 430,000 passengers are expected to enter the country.

According to Angie Stephen, Royal Caribbean (Asia-Pacific) managing director, the liner will be making 55 calls during the upcoming season.

The Quantum-class vessel will see a total of 38 sailings out of Singapore to Malaysia for the 2020-2021 cruise season at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal in Penang and Port Klang with 240,000 tourist arrivals.

The itineraries of Quantum of the Seas include a 4-night voyage to Phuket and Penang, 5 nights to Port Klang, Phuket, and Penang, 7 nights to Penang, Port Klang, and overnight at Phuket, as well as 7 nights to and overnight in Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.

The agreement was signed in 2018 where Penang Port Sdn Bhd and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd will jointly invest RM 155 million to expand the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT).

The improved terminal manages 12,000 cruise passengers at a time.
