Uniworld delays SS Sphinx ship (Egypt) after fire

   December 19, 2019 ,   Accidents

Uniworld has delayed the delivery date for the Nile River Egypt-based new riverboat SS Sphinx due to fire at the Cairo Shipyard. The fire has damaged the ship (currently under construction), so it will now enter service in August 2020.

A statement released by cruise company noted that the new boat (initially scheduled for inauguration on January 6, 2020) had caught fire at the shipyard in Cairo late last month.

Thankfully, at the time of the accident, no one was on board and no injuries were reported. After a thorough assessment of the damage, Uniworld had made "the unfortunate decision to delay the launch until the September 26, 2020 sailing."
