With an increasing likelihood that Hurricane Matthew will hit the east coast of Florida late this week, South Florida cruise homeports are under USCG-ordered port condition X-ray, that triggers preparations in anticipation of 48 h to landfall.

The affected ports include Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), Miami and Palm Beach. Port condition x-ray was set at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hurricane Matthew, still powerful Category 4, was pummeled Haiti early yesterday. A hurricane warning is still in effect for Cuba's eastern provinces and southeastern, central and northwestern Bahamas. From Deerfield Beach to Volusia/Brevard county line, hurricane watch was issued for Florida.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center, Miami said Hurricane Matthew might weaken slightly due to land interaction. However, warm waters and favorable upper-level wind pattern should allow it to remain very strong during the next couple of days.
