The UK-based Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has unveiled an 87-night Grand Voyage combining the Amazon and Antarctica on a single round-trip sailing from the United Kingdom.
The itinerary (already on sale) will see Borealis depart Southampton on January 5th, 2028, for a voyage spanning 28 ports in 17 countries across 5 continents. This is the only itinerary of its kind currently offered as a round-trip from the UK.
The itinerary includes scenic cruising on the Amazon River with calls at Manaus and Santarém, allowing guests to explore one of the world's most biodiverse regions. After sailing south around Cape Horn, Borealis will spend three days scenic cruising in the Antarctic Peninsula, where passengers will have the opportunity to observe glaciers, ice-covered landscapes, penguins, seabirds and other wildlife from the ship.
The voyage also features overnight stays in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, providing additional time ashore to explore both cities. Other ports of call include Samaná Bay in the Dominican Republic and Dominica, destinations known for their natural landscapes and seasonal whale-watching opportunities.
Martin Lister, Head of Product Innovation at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, stated that the itinerary had been carefully designed to combine some of the world's most distinctive destinations on a single voyage departing from the UK. He noted that the sailing marks the company's first return to the Amazon in 9 years and was developed to provide closer access to the rainforest and its wildlife through extended scenic cruising. He also highlighted Antarctica as one of the world's most remote cruising regions, where guests will spend three days sailing among glaciers, snow-covered mountains and ice-filled waters. According to Lister, the combination of the Amazon, Antarctica, South America's major cities and the Caribbean creates an itinerary offering both geographical diversity and destination immersion.
Guests booking by August 19th, 2026 will be eligible for Fred. Olsen's Freedom Fare Price Promise, which guarantees that the cruise will not be offered at a lower fare during the first four weeks following its release. During the same booking period, selected cabins will be available without a single supplement for solo travellers. Freedom Fare bookings also include full-board dining with selected drinks at lunch and dinner, onboard entertainment and enrichment programmes, complimentary shuttle buses in selected ports, access to fitness facilities, together with port charges, fees, gratuities and the company's Satisfaction Guarantee.
The Amazon & Antarctica Adventure (voyage S2801) will depart Southampton on January 5th, 2028, with fares starting from GBP 10,999 per person.
