28 September 2019Fire Accident

In the morning on September 28, 2019, while en-route from Igoumenitsa (Greece) to Venice (Italy) and soon after leaving Igoumenitsa, the cruiseferry reported a Car Deck fire accident. It immediately turned back and redocked in Igoumenitsa where (at ~8:20 am) all the 538 passengers plus the 79 crew were evacuated.

The fire was quickly put out by the ship's automatic fire suppression system. Two passengers were hospitalized. No damages were reported to the 293 vehicles in the Car Deck. Olympic Champion was operating a regularly scheduled crossing from Patra to Venice via Igoumenitsa and Kerkyra (Corfu Island).
