Stena ship's crew and passengers were safe, but the return crossing was canceled. The ship Oscar Wilde sustained only minor damages and departed at 11 pm. |
January 2003 | Propulsion / Power Loss In January 2003, the ship lost power while navigating close to Tuskar Rock, off Ireland's coast. The vessel was disabled and drifting for ~3 hours in heavy winds (speeds up to 85 kph / 50 mph). Five helicopters were ready to be deployed for the evacuation of all the 155 passengers and 65 crew. However, the rescue operation was aborted as the ship's engineering crew managed to restore power. |
