On July 13, 2022, at 6 pm (CET), the world’s only luxury icebreaker - Le Commandant Charcot, reached the geographic North Pole.

This is a symbolic achievement for PONANT, an expert in expeditions to polar regions and the only French cruise company.

In September 2021, Le Commandant Charcot became the first France-flagged ship to reach this latitude of 90,00,000°. This time, the feat was repeated with passengers.

The boat's Master - Captain Patrick Marchesseau, said it was with great humility, and emotion that they had reached that latitude, each of them aware of the exceptional character of the moment they had been living.

Le Commandant Charcot is the first hybrid-electric LNG-powered cruiser to accommodate scientific research teams, providing them with dedicated work areas. The icebreaker puts scientific research at the heart of Ponant’s commitment and unique sea travel concept.
