With Fred Olsen's ship MV Bolette ends the successful cruise season at Mombasa Port

The coastal tourism sector experienced a significant upswing as the cruise vessel MV Bolette, carrying 859 tourists, berthed at the bustling port of Mombasa (Kenya).

Marking the conclusion of this season's maritime activity, MV Bolette is the 6th and final cruise ship to grace the port of Mombasa. Tourists, eager for exploration, embarked on diverse travel escapades, venturing to destinations such as Shimba Hills, Tsavo, Diani, and immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Mombasa city.

Addressing the media at the Kenya Ports Authority Cruise Terminal in Mombasa, John Chirchir, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), emphasized the collaborative potential among the 6 coastal counties to harness the opportunities presented by the cruise ship tourism sector.

Chirchir revealed that KTB is diligently working to rejuvenate cruise tourism in Kenya, hinting at ongoing campaigns to entice more vessels to the captivating shores.

Dr. Sudi Mwasinago, General Manager Cargo Operations at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), speaking on behalf of KPA Managing Director Captain William Ruto, underscored the port's pivotal role in revitalizing the cruise ship industry in Kenya. Mwasinago emphasized the symbiotic relationship, stating that KPA acts as the vital link between land and sea for these maritime vessels.

Highlighting the economic benefits, Mwasinago expressed the port's commitment to supporting and facilitating cruise ship business, recognizing its positive impact on charges, the county, the country, and the overall economy.

Mwasinago underscored the invaluable contribution of cruises to the port, revealing that 6 ships visited the port in 2022, with expectations of more in 2024.

Mohammed Osman, Executive for Trade, Tourism, and Culture in Mombasa County, celebrated the arrival of MV Bolette as a testament to the enduring appeal of Mombasa as the preferred tourist destination for both local and international visitors.

Amidst the festive season, Mombasa is bustling with tourists, drawn to the scenic beaches and cultural sites. The recently refurbished Mama Ngina Waterfront Park serves as the venue for the Mombasa International Festival, extending from Christmas Day to December 31.

Belonging to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, MV Bolette, with passengers of diverse nationalities and 1000 crew members, made its journey from Port Victoria in the Seychelles to the Port Cruise Terminal. Following an overnight stay in Mombasa, the vessel is set to continue its Indian Ocean voyage with a destination in Zanzibar.
