The luxury travel company Azamara announced the successful visit of Azamara Onward ship to Pitcairn Island (Jan 28th) during her World Cruise 2024, marking the inaugural occasion of the brand's landing guests on this remote island.

This remarkable achievement underscores Azamara's dedication to exploration, particularly in challenging destinations like Pitcairn (a British Overseas Territory), known for its unpredictable weather conditions.

Favorable weather conditions allowed Azamara Onward the rare opportunity to disembark passengers as she approached Pitcairn. Guests had the privilege of immersing themselves in the secluded beauty of Pitcairn Island, characterized by pristine blue waters, one of the world's largest marine reserves, and unparalleled stargazing opportunities under exceptionally dark skies.

Despite the island's small population of ~50 residents, descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers and Polynesians, the locals warmly welcomed visitors and eagerly shared their culture, craftsmanship, and knowledge of the island.

Travel enthusiasts seeking to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations while enjoying the advantages of Azamara's intimate small-ship experience are encouraged to secure their spot on Azamara's World Cruise 2025. This 155-night expedition spans 37 countries, offering guests the freedom to explore at their own pace, away from crowds and complications. Additionally, Azamara's 2026 World Cruise features 46 late nights and overnights, along with 13 exclusive events, providing guests with deeper connections to each captivating destination and its rich cultural tapestry.

According to Michael Pawlus (Azamara's Head of Itinerary Planning), not many cruisers got the opportunity to visit Pitcairn - the weather usually didn't cooperate, and there were no bays or coves for the ship to anchor in.

“This is the very first time in my career that I have seen the weather allow for guests to go ashore on Pitcairn Island. I’ve designed nearly 20 itineraries that include the stop before, so I’m thrilled that all conditions were in our favor this time, giving our World Cruisers an incredibly unique experience in such an isolated destination.”
