A fire aboard the cruise ship Amadea prompted the evacuation of ~320 passengers while the vessel was docked at Rønne, Denmark, on Monday, September 14th.
The fire broke out in a linen-storage compartment while the Bahamas-flagged ship was alongside Rønne’s cruise quay. Bornholm Police received the alarm at 7:21 a.m., and the blaze was brought under control and extinguished within ~10 minutes.
No passengers or crew members were injured. Police confirmed that all evacuated passengers were safe and in good condition following the incident.
Police officers, firefighters and personnel from the Danish Emergency Management Agency attended the scene and remained at the cruise terminal while the affected area was examined.
Emil Gørløv, incident commander with the Bornholm Fire Service, said the ship’s crew had carried out the evacuation efficiently and provided emergency responders with assistance in navigating the vessel. He also noted that the crew’s guidance enabled firefighters to reach the affected area quickly.
Rønne Port employees supported the emergency response by directing emergency vehicles along the access road to the ship.
Authorities said the immediate danger had passed, while Bornholm Police opened an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Amadea is operated by German cruise company Phoenix Reisen. The ship measures ~193 metres in length, has a gross tonnage of around 29,000 and can accommodate ~600 passengers.
