Viking has reached a significant construction milestone with the float-out of its newest Nile River vessel, the Viking Thoth.
The event, held at the Massara Shipyard in Cairo (Egypt), marks the first time the 82-guest vessel has been introduced to water and signals its transition to the final phase of construction.
Viking Thoth's delivery is scheduled for October 2025, after which it will begin service on Viking’s 12-day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary.
Viking Thoth will become the latest addition to Viking’s expanding fleet in Egypt, which is set to reach 12 ships on the Nile River by 2027. With accommodations for 82 guests across 41 staterooms, the vessel follows the design blueprint of its sister ships, including the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor, and the upcoming Viking Amun. The ship maintains Viking’s Scandinavian-inspired interior aesthetic and features such as a square bow and the Aquavit Terrace, a hallmark of the company’s river and ocean fleet.
Viking’s Chairman and CEO, Torstein Hagen, emphasized the strategic significance of Egypt as a cultural destination and reaffirmed the line’s continued investment in the region, citing the addition of both Viking Thoth and Viking Amun in 2025 as part of a long-term plan to enhance capacity and service on the Nile.
The Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary begins with a 3-night hotel stay in Cairo, allowing guests to explore the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Saqqara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The program continues with a flight to Luxor, where passengers embark on an 8-day roundtrip cruise featuring visits to notable sites such as the Temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and Abu Simbel. The journey also includes cultural excursions to locations like a Nubian village and the High Dam at Aswan, before concluding with a final overnight stay in Cairo.
