The Koper Cruise Terminal (Slovenia), situated adjacent to the Old Town of Koper, has evolved into a key maritime entry point for cruise passengers over the past two decades. Its strategic location has made it an increasingly frequent call on Adriatic and Mediterranean cruise itineraries, contributing to consistent annual growth in both cruise vessel arrivals and passenger volume.
Having exceeded 1 million cruise passenger arrivals, the terminal’s existing infrastructure has approached its operational limits. In response to this growing demand, Luka Koper plc, the terminal's operating authority, initiated the development of a new passenger terminal. Following a public tender process, a contractor was selected to begin construction in autumn 2024, coinciding with the conclusion of the peak cruise season.
The new facility, officially inaugurated on May 27, 2025, has been constructed to meet both functional and environmental criteria. Designed to facilitate efficient delivery of port services, it integrates harmoniously with its urban surroundings and incorporates energy-efficient systems and recyclable materials. Beyond serving as a maritime gateway, the terminal will also partially serve the local population, with select areas accessible to the general public.
The architecture and functionality of the new terminal reflect Slovenia’s broader commitment to sustainability and socially responsible development, aiming to position Koper as a modern and resilient cruise port in the northern Adriatic.
