Malaysia is set to welcome its first-ever homeporting of a Chinese cruise ship, with Piano Land scheduled to begin operations from Penang and Port Klang starting November 30, 2025.

This development, jointly announced by Hwajing Travel & Tours and Astro Ocean Cruises, signifies a pivotal step in the country’s ambition to position itself as a key cruise hub in Southeast Asia.

The vessel, known for its premium accommodations and amenities, will offer two itineraries: a 3-day voyage between Penang and Port Klang, and a 4-day sailing that includes Langkawi. The deployment of Piano Land introduces new regional cruise circuits, linking Malaysian ports to broader Asian tourism flows and underscoring the nation’s maritime and tourism potential.

This initiative is also expected to drive upgrades to port infrastructure and stimulate growth in Malaysia’s hospitality, service, and tourism sectors. By drawing passengers from China and other Asian markets, the collaboration is positioned to strengthen Malaysia’s cruise ecosystem and further integrate it into regional cruise networks.
