During the August 14th preview cruise of Star of the Seas, docked alongside Symphony of the Seas at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, an unplanned emergency alarm echoed across the vessel shortly after 08:00 a.m.
The alarm, known within maritime protocol as "Oscar, Oscar, Oscar," signifying a person overboard, had been activated when a guest fell from the pier that spans the two ships. The individual, reportedly focused on capturing video footage of Star OTS with his phone, lost his balance and toppled into the water.
Onlookers noted the man managed to grasp a life ring thrown by crew members.
A rescue team was swiftly deployed, and within minutes, he was retrieved from the water by jet ski and returned to shore.
Crew reports indicated no serious injuries were sustained.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that the guest fell while recording the vessel and that the rescue team responded immediately, retrieving him using a jet ski and delivering him safely to land.
The incident occurred during the ship’s inaugural preview voyage from Port Canaveral. Star of the Seas, the second Icon-class vessel in Royal Caribbean's fleet, had recently called at Perfect Day at CocoCay alongside Symphony of the Seas, which was conducting a 7-night Bahamas itinerary from Cape Liberty.
