MV Gemini collides with pier at Port Piraeus (Athens, Greece)

   September 5, 2025 ,   Accidents

On the morning of September 5th, 2025, the MV Gemini, traversing the berth at Piraeus (Athens, Greece) aboard a controlled approach, made unintended contact with the pier.

The vessel’s hull sustained damage above the waterline—a significant breach—during the docking evolution, as reported by the cruise line and later confirmed in technical assessments.

Port authorities, alongside the ship’s technical personnel, are slated to conduct a thorough inspection. Their findings will determine the scope of repairs required before the cruiser may resume scheduled operations.

This collision forms part of an ongoing series of structural and mechanical setbacks encountered by this 1992-built vessel. Earlier, in March of 2025, the Gemini experienced an engine-room fire shortly after departing Piraeus. Smoke had risen visibly from her upper decks, prompting all aboard to muster as a precaution. The blaze was extinguished, but the vessel was obliged to drift back to port under limited propulsion.
