In a traditional maritime ceremony at Port Everglades, Star Princess—the newest addition to the Princess Cruises fleet—was formally named by its godparents, Camila and Matthew McConaughey. The couple carried out the centuries-old ritual by breaking a bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila, the brand they co-founded, against the ship’s hull to wish safe voyages and good fortune to guests and crew alike.
The event, hosted by travel and lifestyle presenter Dawn McCoy, took place in the ship’s Princess Arena and was attended by guests and company representatives. Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha and Captain Gennaro Arma both addressed the audience, underscoring the importance of the ceremony in the company’s history. The evening featured a live performance by nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow, followed by a drone display illuminating the sky in tribute to the ship’s forthcoming Alaska itinerary.
Camila and Matthew McConaughey expressed their appreciation for being chosen as godparents, noting that they looked forward to welcoming passengers aboard and celebrating life’s moments with family, friends, and a shared toast of their tequila. The couple’s selection reflects Princess Cruises’ focus on creativity, warmth, and community—values mirrored in the McConaugheys’ own philanthropic and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Gus Antorcha described Star Princess as both a continuation of the company’s legacy and a symbol of its future direction, highlighting its design, guest experience, and spirit of exploration. The McConaugheys now join an esteemed roster of Princess Cruises godparents, including Princess Diana, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren.
Weighing 177,800 tons and accommodating up to 4,300 guests, Star Princess introduces new dining concepts, entertainment venues, and premium accommodations. Following her transatlantic voyage, the vessel will commence her inaugural Caribbean season from Fort Lauderdale on November 7th, 2025. After several months in the Caribbean, she will reposition through the Panama Canal to Seattle for her summer 2026 season, offering week-long voyages through Alaska’s Inside Passage.
With her christening complete, Star Princess now begins service as the line’s most advanced ship to date, combining maritime tradition with modern luxury as she joins the Princess Cruises fleet.
