Nicko Cruises has announced a modification to the itinerary of its forthcoming 2025–2026 world cruise aboard Vasco da Gama, adjusting the segment between Dubai and Piraeus in response to ongoing security concerns in the Red Sea region.

The 175-night circumnavigation, which departed from Hamburg on November 7th, 2025, will proceed as planned except for this affected portion beginning March 20th, 2026. Instead of sailing through the Red Sea and the waters off Yemen, guests will disembark at Salalah, Oman, to embark on a 4-day overland programme. During this period, the vessel will reposition to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, without passengers on board.

The alternative route includes cultural and natural excursions in Oman and Saudi Arabia, with guests accommodated at a four-star hotel in Jeddah before re-embarking the ship. According to the company, this solution provides a balance between prudent route planning and an enriching travel experience.

Nicko Cruises stated that passenger safety remains its foremost consideration and that, although conditions in the Red Sea may improve before the scheduled passage, the proactive decision ensures uninterrupted continuity of the voyage. The overland component has been designed to include several guided experiences, some incorporated into the fare and others available for pre-booking once onboard.

After the Jeddah stop, Vasco da Gama will continue her scheduled route through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and onward to Western Europe to complete the world cruise.

The adjustment reflects a wider industry response to maritime security developments in the region. Other operators, including Celestyal Cruises, have announced similar itinerary revisions, temporarily diverting or limiting passenger voyages through the Red Sea.
