MSC Cruises has entered the Alaska market with the inaugural departure of MSC Poesia from Seattle, marking the company’s first deployment in the region. The vessel sailed this week on the opening voyage of a summer programme that will continue through September, introducing the line’s operations to the Alaskan cruise sector for the first time.
The recently upgraded ship now features the addition of the MSC Yacht Club concept, alongside new dining venues and expanded wellness and fitness facilities. Operating on weekly 7-night itineraries from Seattle, MSC Poesia is scheduled to call at Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau and Victoria, with scenic cruising through Endicott Arm for views of Dawes Glacier.
MSC Cruises confirmed that the vessel will return to Alaska for the 2027 summer season, with bookings already open for next year’s deployment.
As part of its regional operations, the company has entered into a partnership with ORCA to support marine wildlife research. During the peak whale season, specialists will sail aboard the vessel to provide crew training and guest education focused on Alaska’s marine ecosystem.
The refurbishment programme aboard MSC Poesia included enhancements to the MSC Aurea Spa, upgraded fitness areas powered by Technogym, new workout studios and the addition of a Gentleman’s Barber. Culinary offerings have also been expanded with the introduction of Butcher’s Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar.
For the Alaska deployment, the onboard culinary programme has been adapted to reflect regional influences, with expanded seafood selections, destination-inspired cuisine and beverages developed specifically for the itineraries in the region.
Entertainment during the season includes the live-to-film production “Dirty Dancing: In Concert,” alongside live music, themed events, comedy performances, family activities and destination-focused presentations covering Alaska’s geography, wildlife and culture.
Following the conclusion of the Alaska season, MSC Poesia will reposition for Caribbean sailings during the 2026-2027 winter programme before returning to Alaska in spring 2027. The repositioning voyages will include transits of the Panama Canal between Miami and Seattle.
