CCL-Carnival Cruise Line’s private destination Celebration Key on Grand Bahama has marked its first year of operation after welcoming ~2.4 million cruise guests since opening on July 19th.
The milestone highlights the rapid integration of the destination into Carnival’s Caribbean deployment network and its role as a dedicated port experience designed around Bahamian culture, recreation and hospitality.
Developed as Carnival’s exclusive destination in The Bahamas, Celebration Key combines beachfront areas, lagoons, dining venues, retail spaces and entertainment facilities intended to provide cruise passengers with a full-day shore experience while maintaining connections to local traditions and businesses. The destination opened with facilities including a large beach area, freshwater lagoons, dining outlets and recreational attractions.
During its inaugural year, Celebration Key recorded strong visitor participation across its attractions and culinary offerings. More than 500,000 guests experienced the destination’s waterslides, while Bahamian-owned vendors contributed to the food and beverage program, including the service of hundreds of thousands of local-style treats and beverages. The destination also featured regular Junkanoo performances, bringing traditional Bahamian music and cultural displays to visiting cruise passengers.
CCL has also positioned Celebration Key as an accessible destination, becoming the first cruise destination to receive Sensory Inclusive Certification through its partnership with KultureCity. The certification forms part of the company’s wider effort to expand accessibility features across its guest experiences.
Christine Duffy (CCL's President) stated that the first year demonstrated the destination’s ability to create guest experiences while supporting economic activity on Grand Bahama. The company noted that Celebration Key has generated employment opportunities through ~1,000 year-round local positions and has emphasized partnerships with Bahamian operators.
Local participation remains a central element of the destination’s commercial structure, with more than 80% of food and retail operators reported to be Bahamian-owned businesses. These partnerships form part of CCL's approach to integrating the destination into the economic landscape of Grand Bahama.
The first anniversary arrives as Celebration Key continues to expand its role within CCL's Caribbean itinerary network. The destination has become a regular call on voyages departing from multiple U.S. homeports, with further infrastructure development planned to increase future ship capacity and visitor volumes.
With its combination of cruise infrastructure, local enterprise and Bahamian cultural programming, Celebration Key represents a significant addition to the region’s growing portfolio of dedicated cruise destinations.
