Mitsui Ocean Cruises will make its first call in Australia in February 2027, when Mitsui Ocean Fuji undertakes a 47-day South Pacific programme departing Yokohama. The voyage will include Cairns as part of a wider itinerary covering destinations across the Pacific and will be marketed in Australia through Cruise Traveller.
The 458-guest Mitsui Ocean Fuji, formerly operated as Seabourn Odyssey, is scheduled to call at Cairns on February 14th, 2027. The port visit forms part of the vessel’s extended voyage from Yokohama to the South Pacific and back to Japan. The itinerary also includes Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu and French Polynesia, alongside less frequently visited Pacific destinations including the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the Federated States of Micronesia. Mitsui Ocean Cruises’ official programme lists the full Yokohama round trip from February 3rd to March 21st, covering 47 days.
Cruise Traveller has introduced several sectors aimed specifically at the Australian market. These include a Japan-to-Tahiti segment beginning February 3rd, a Tahiti-to-Japan sailing from February 28th, and a Cairns-to-Yokohama sector departing February 15th. The complete round-trip itinerary from Yokohama is also available to Australian passengers.
The vessel offers accommodation entirely with ocean views, with most staterooms equipped with private balconies. Onboard facilities include several restaurants, lounges, a theatre, wellness facilities, a swimming pool and jacuzzis.
Mitsui Ocean Cruises is positioning the programme around longer stays and access to destinations that are less commonly included in mainstream Pacific cruise schedules. Cruise Traveller managing director Joe O’Sullivan said the product combines the characteristics of a small ship with Japanese-style hospitality, while also providing a broad range of destinations and inclusions.
The Australian deployment represents an expansion of Mitsui Ocean Cruises’ international programme, with Mitsui Ocean Fuji using its smaller capacity to operate an extended Pacific itinerary linking Japan, Australia and a series of island destinations before returning to Japan.
