Ambassador Cruise Line has announced a 19-night Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse voyage aboard Ambition, offering passengers the opportunity to witness the total solar eclipse of August 2nd, 2027 from Gibraltar.

The no-fly cruise will depart Dundee on July 27th, 2027, with Ambition sailing south towards Portugal and the Mediterranean. The ship is scheduled to reach Gibraltar on August 2nd, placing passengers within the path of totality for the astronomical event.

Ambition is Ambassador’s second ship and began service with the company in May 2023, when she was named in Dundee by her godmother, Shirley Robertson, the first British woman to win Olympic gold medals at two consecutive Games.

The 2027 voyage follows Ambassador Group’s dedicated eclipse operations in August 2026, when all three of its ships were positioned to observe the total solar eclipse of August 12th. Ambience carried 1,587 passengers to a position off Gijón in northern Spain, while 1,097 passengers aboard Ambition observed the eclipse near Ittoqqortoormiit on Greenland’s east coast. Renaissance operated a separate French eclipse itinerary in the Mediterranean. Specialist astronomers, aurora experts and astrophotographers supported the programmes across the fleet.

For the 2027 sailing, Ambition is scheduled to remain in Gibraltar during the eclipse. Totality is expected at ~10:45 a.m., with passengers forecast to experience about four and a half minutes of totality. The event will be the longest total solar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth between 2009 and 2114.

Following Gibraltar, Ambition will continue through the western Mediterranean, calling at Almeria, Alicante, Valencia and Ibiza before visiting Cádiz. The return passage will include Vigo, providing access to Santiago de Compostela, before the ship reaches Dundee on August 15th.

Ambassador’s Chief Experience Officer, Bob McGowan, said the 2026 programme had demonstrated the operational possibilities of positioning multiple ships in different locations for the same astronomical event. He said the 2027 itinerary would combine the eclipse experience in Gibraltar with a no-fly departure from the UK and calls in Portugal and Spain, with additional onboard programming to be announced.

The eclipse programme will form part of Ambition’s wider enrichment and entertainment offering, with live performances, guest speakers, music and social activities scheduled across venues including the Palladium Show Lounge and The Cavern. The ship is operated as an adults-only vessel.

The itinerary is priced from GBP 2,969 per person for a shared inside cabin on Saver Fares, while Ambassador Fares start at GBP 3,775 per person and include the top Expedition Drinks Package. Both prices are based on two passengers sharing.

The cruise is scheduled as Ambition: Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse, departing Dundee on July 27th, 2027 for 19 nights and returning on August 15th.
