A body has been recovered during a search operation for a man who went overboard from Ambassador Cruise Line’s MS Ambition in the North Sea off Scotland’s east coast.
The man was reported missing at ~08:35 a.m. on August 21st, while the ship was ~36 nautical miles east of Arbroath. Lifeboats, Coastguard teams and aerial assets were deployed to search the area before MS Ambition continued to Dundee.
Police Scotland said the body had been recovered and that formal identification was still pending. The missing man’s family had been informed.
The ship was returning to Dundee following a solar eclipse cruise that had included calls in Iceland and the Faroe Islands, as well as a visit to Lerwick. The vessel had departed Dundee for Newcastle on the previous Friday evening.
The search operation involved Coastguard aircraft from Prestwick and Carlisle, a commercial search and rescue helicopter, lifeboats from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, and Coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews.
Passengers aboard MS Ambition were initially held on the ship following its arrival in Dundee, but disembarkation began at ~11:30 a.m.
Police Scotland said the incident had been reported at ~08:55 a.m. and that a coordinated search and rescue operation involving police and partner agencies had subsequently been carried out, resulting in the recovery of a body.
