Philadelphia (PhilaPort, Pennsylvania) has officially opened its new cruise terminal, marking the completion of a project designed to restore and expand the city’s role as a cruise port.
The terminal was formally inaugurated on Thursday, August 27th, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at PhilaPort in Southwest Philadelphia. The opening had originally been planned for earlier in the year but was delayed by severe winter weather that affected construction work.
NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line became the first cruise operator to use the new facility in April, when it chartered the city’s first cruise sailing in nearly two decades.
The port is scheduled to welcome Norwegian Pearl in November. The ship will operate round-trip itineraries from PhilaPort to destinations in Bermuda, the Bahamas, Canada and New England, providing the city with a regular cruise programme and additional access to regional markets.
