NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) following reports that three passengers who sailed aboard Norwegian Prima in May and July 2026 were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease.
In a notice issued to guests and travel partners on September 1st, NCL said the source of the exposure had not yet been established. Investigators are examining whether the passengers may have encountered Legionella bacteria through the ship’s water systems or through another source.
As part of the investigation, Norwegian Cruise Line has tested water-related equipment and fixtures aboard Norwegian Prima, including hot tubs, showers and faucets. The cruise line said that all results received to date have been negative, with additional testing planned as the investigation continues.
NCL said it was providing the information as a precaution while the investigation remained underway and reiterated that passenger health and safety were priorities. The cruise line also noted that most people who develop Legionnaires’ disease recover with appropriate medical treatment.
