CCL-Carnival Cruise Line marked International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 19th with a series of beach and waterway cleanup activities involving shipboard and shoreside employees, port partners and local community organisations across its network.
During September, 377 shipboard team members from 29 vessels and 111 shoreside employees participated in 31 cleanup operations. The activities resulted in the collection of ~175 bags and 5,000+ pounds of waste and debris from coastal and waterway areas.
Cleanup activities were organised in several of Carnival’s major US homeports, including Galveston in Texas and Port Canaveral and Miami in Florida, as well as destinations in Alaska, the Caribbean, The Bahamas, Mexico, Greece, France and Australia. Carnival Glory is scheduled to conduct its cleanup on September 30th, which will bring the initiative to full fleet participation.
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said the programme reflected the environmental responsibility associated with operating at sea and visiting coastal destinations. She noted that the participation of employees and local partners demonstrated how coordinated cleanup activities could contribute to protecting marine and coastal environments.
The September campaign forms part of Carnival’s year-round efforts to support cleaner coastal communities. According to the cruise line, its shipboard and shoreside teams have collected 7,200+ pounds of debris through cleanup activities during 2026.
The initiative was conducted with support from local environmental organisations, port partners and community groups and forms part of Carnival’s wider sustainability programme, Our Sea Pledge. The programme covers five areas: Climate Action, Circular Economy, Sustainable Tourism, Biodiversity & Conservation, and Good Health, Inclusion & Belonging.
Carnival said these areas provide the framework for its environmental and community initiatives, including efforts to reduce impacts on the destinations visited by its ships and support the communities in which the company operates.
