Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will introduce a series of upgrades to its luxury ships EUROPA and EUROPA 2 during scheduled drydockings in 2027.

The refurbishments will focus on staterooms, dining venues and social spaces, combining design improvements, technical upgrades and maintenance work with further developments to the onboard experience.

MS EUROPA 2 will enter the shipyard in Singapore in January 2027, followed by EUROPA, which is scheduled for a shipyard stay in Bremerhaven in autumn. The work forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to update its fleet while retaining the characteristics that distinguish the two vessels in the luxury cruise market.

During MS EUROPA 2’s refit, ~250 suites will receive a new colour scheme. The Atrium and adjoining Piano Bar will be modernised, while the Sakura and Elements speciality restaurants are scheduled for visual enhancements. Further conceptual developments are planned for Elements, although the company has not yet provided additional details.

Hapag-Lloyd's Managing Director Isolde Susset explained that the programme would build on the company’s experience and the established identity of each vessel. The approach is intended to improve areas where changes can enhance the guest experience while preserving the features that define the ships.

Both EUROPA and EUROPA 2 have established reputations in the international luxury cruise segment. According to the company, they have consistently received recognition as leading cruise ships from Insight Guides Cruising & Cruise Ships, formerly the Berlitz Cruise Guide, with the latest accolade awarded in 2025. EUROPA 2 also received a Kreuzfahrt Guide Award in the Service & Comfort category.

Planning for EUROPA’s shipyard period in Bremerhaven is still being refined. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has indicated that further information about the work planned for both vessels will be announced in the coming months.
