MS Europa 1 (1999-built, last refurbished in September 2024) is Hapag-Lloyd’s first newbuild cruise ship, followed by MS Europa 2 (2013). The vessel was constructed in Helsinki, Finland. She is a top-luxury boutique ship operated under an all-inclusive concept.
The MS Europa cruise ship deck plan features a total of 204 cabins (for 408 passengers) served by 285 crew members. The ship has 11 decks, 8 of which are accessible to passengers, and 5 with accommodations. Signature venues include the Piano Bar, Havana Bar, Sansibar, Clipper Lounge, Auditorium, Atrium, Library, and a partially covered swimming pool (20x7.5 m / 66x24.6 ft) with a Pool Bar. Other amenities include an outdoor Jacuzzi (whirlpool hot tub), the Ocean Spa & Fitness complex with a Beauty Salon, solarium, and sauna, a golf simulator and driving range, tennis court, shuffleboard, Kids’ Playroom, Teens’ Club, Art Workshop, Photo Gallery & Shop, Boutique Shop, Promenade Deck, and Sundeck.
MS Europa deck plan changes – 2017 refurbishment review
The ship’s 2017 drydock refurbishment (September 27 to October 13), carried out by Blohm+Voss in Hamburg, Germany, resulted in the following upgrades:
- The entire wellness area (spa and gym aft on Deck 7) was redesigned and renovated, with upgraded fitness and spa equipment.
- The 36 suites without balconies were modernized with new en-suite bathrooms.
- One of the vessel’s propulsion units (Azipod motor computer) was replaced.
During the 2022 drydock (a two-week project by Blohm+Voss, supervised by Trimline), 56 passenger staterooms were completely refurbished, including new flooring and carpets, fixed and soft furnishings, as well as updated lighting and fittings.
The previous drydocking took place in May 2020 for scheduled maintenance and classification work.
