Woman Airlifted Off Carnival Cruise Ship

A 61-year-old passenger was airlifted from Carnival Miracle off the coast of San Diego on Friday, June 9, following reports of medical emergency.

San Diego Coast Guard announced that at about 10 p.m. on Friday the woman was experiencing symptoms of respiratory distress. The cruise ship was located around 56 miles southwest of San Diego.

Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the passenger be evacuated from Carnival Miracle and taken to the hospital.

A Jayhawk helicopter took off from San Diego and hoisted the woman off the vessel at midnight. She was transported to UCSD Medical Center before 12:30 a.m.

The condition of the medevaced passenger is currently unknown.
