A cruise passenger was airlifted to South Jersey hospital early today, July 30, the U.S.C.G. reported.

The Coast Guard was notified at around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, that an 82-year-old cruiser aboard Anthem of the Seas ship was suffering from abdominal pains.

An Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew arrived above the vessel about 70 miles east of Atlantic City at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday.

The air crew hoisted the man from the ship and transported him for treatment to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas was sailing from Cape Liberty for a 5-day cruise to Bermuda. The ship had to turn closer to land to aid Coast Guard's response.
