Minato Mirai waterfront district in Yokohama will become more bustling in spring 2019 via the opening of a new cruise ship terminal, aiming to attract additional foreign vessels.

Ocean liners including Diamond Princess are due to arrive and depart from the terminal around 80 times per year as their Asian home port.

Taking advantage of the well known location, a variety of commercial facilities will be housed in the 5-story terminal with a floor area of 28,000 m2 alongside immigration and customs-related facilities.

An approx 200-room hotel, restaurants and shops including hands-on outlets are also planned.

The terminal is designed to be a special “sea station” where both Japanese citizens and tourists from abroad can kick back and relax.

The new terminal will be sited at Shinko Pier, developed as a major distribution base in Taisho Era (1912-1926).
