Cruise Gate Hamburg Announces Record Growth

CGH (Cruise Gate Hamburg) ended 2017 cruise season with another record result. A total of 197 ships with 810,000 passengers onboard visited Hamburg, which is an increase in passenger numbers of more than 10% compared with 2016: 170 visits and 722,000 passengers.

Next year Cruise Gate Hamburg expects to see another record growth. All in all, 220 cruise ships with 880,000 passengers are projected to visit Port of Hamburg in 2018, set to become another record year both in terms of passengers and calls.

The two major cruise line clients of Hamburg will also point the way in 2018 season. AIDA will continue to support port‘s pioneering projects regarding alternative energy sources. 3 of the altogether 8 AIDA Cruises ships scheduled to come to Hamburg next year, AIDAperla, AIDAnova and AIDAsol, either rely on green shore power from local grid or electricity from zero-emission LNG.

MSC Cruises will also send a 2nd ship to Hamburg for the coming season. Besides MSC Preziosa, the new mega-liner, MSC Meraviglia, will visit Hamburg from 2018 spring onwards.

TUI Cruises will christen its Mein Schiff 1 in Hamburg in May 2018.
