Passenger Dies After Falling From Carnival Cruise Ship Balcony

A woman has died after falling from the balcony of Jacksonville-based Carnival Elation, according to Carnival Cruise Line.

The as-yet-unidentified woman fell from her balcony to several decks below early Friday, January 19, out at sea, according to a statement from Christine de la Huerta, Carnival spokeswoman, who added that the ship’s medical team had responded immediately, but, unfortunately, the woman had passed away.

Carnival said the accident was reported to “all proper authorities”. A counseling team was made available to the woman’s family and fellow travelers.

Carnival Elation had departed from Jacksonville’s cruise terminal off Heckscher Drive on Thursday on a 4-day cruise to the Bahamas.
