The representative for Carolina, Puerto Rico, and spokesman for the House Tourism Committee, Angel Matos García, has asked Puerto Rico Tourism Company on Friday, July 19, to present a communication and negotiation plan with the cruise companies because of the possible cancellation of cruise liners amid the government crisis underway.

The lawmaker questioned in a statement that starting on Sunday, July 21, and during the next week, they would have in San Juan nine cruise liners visiting, what was "the government’s plan to guarantee operations and their arrival."

Two RCI-Royal Caribbean ships (Empress OTS and Harmony OTS) cancelled their visits to Puerto Rico this week. The impact on island's economy of the 2 trips was estimated at about USD 657,154. On Thursday, Tourism Company announced that Allure OTS docked without problems.

The destination marketing organization, Discover Puerto Rico, maintains a plan in force to reaffirm Puerto Rico is a safe destination as well as its commitment to ensuring international travellers have a world-class experience.

Both Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line kept the stops of Freedom OTS and Carnival Fascination on their schedules. Both liners are homeported in Puerto Rico.
