On Thursday, September 5, at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Palermo Italy, Christopher Prelog (VP of Fleet Operations for Windstar Cruises) pushed the button that activated the torch to make the first cut in the new steel which is due to become the mid-section of Star Legend.

This is the 2nd of 3 new mid-ship sections being specially designed and constructed as part of the line’s US$250 Million Star Plus Initiative, to transform and expand the 3 Star-class ships.

Star Legend cruise ship

Star Legend is the 2nd of 3 Star-class ships that will undergo the transformation from a 212-guest to 312-passenger ship via installing a new section of the cruise ship. The transformation of the Star-class ships will increase the capacity by 100 via the addition of 50 new suites, most of which will be housed in the new mid-sections built at Fincantieri shipyards.

The transformed vessels will boast a couple of new restaurants including the Spanish-styled Cuadro 44 by Anthony Sasso as well as an alfresco Star Grill by Steven Raichlen. Guests will enjoy a new pool and whirlpool, a redesigned wellness complex (spa and fitness), retail shops, and more.
