Crystal River Cruises ships earn Green Award certification

   April 20, 2020 ,   Cruise Industry

The Crystal River Cruises fleet of 4 sisterships (Crystal Debussy, Crystal Mahler, Crystal Ravel, Crystal Bach) was granted the Green Award certification. The unique certificate recognizes vessels that demonstrate exceptional environmental standards and safety.

Established in 1994, Green Award promotes responsible environmental practices among sea-going ships, establishing the certification for river ships and inland shipping in 2011. They are decided by a panel of maritime industry members representing private and public entities, who adhere to the stringent evaluation protocols of the foundation.

Crystal’s newbuild riverboats were introduced in 2017-2018. The ships were specially designed to meet the highest specifications for efficiency in operations, sustainability standards, and environmental protection. Each vessel features a diesel-electric powerplant that allows diesel fuel to be consumed more efficiently (for both the propulsion and to generate onboard electricity); advanced wastewater treatment systems. Ships' Captains are specifically trained to minimize engine loads and fuel consumption via adjusting the crusing speed and connecting to shoreside power systems when in port.
