Two passengers (of French nationality) and 5 crew on the CroisiEurope-owned and boat Vasco de Gama tested COVID-positive. All 67 passengers and 20 crew onboard are being tested. The ship is deployed on Douro River (Portugal) and homeported in Oporto.

The alert was given on Monday, September 7, when a passenger presented the first Coronavirus symptoms when preparing to disembark at Cais da Lixa, Portugal. The health authorities tested the 67 cruisers. The 2 positive passengers were hospitalized. The remaining guests are in isolation awaiting results.

The 20 crew members have been quarantined on the boat. The five positive crew were isolated from the rest.

The situation is being monitored by the health authority and the Mayor of Castelo de Paiva, in the Aveiro district, where the ship is moored. MS Vasco de Gama is being quarantined at Sardoura Wharf, designated as a contingency port for outbreaks in the case of ships.
